A delightful afternoon!

Kim Henry owns and operates the book store, Books or Books, in Henderson, Nevada. The delightful atmosphere creates a warm environment conducive for leaving the store with a handful of great books.

Serving as the perfect host for my book signing event, providing a table, complete with a candy dish of chocolates, Kim graciously promoted me as a new author. I appreciated her purchasing a signed copy of ‘In Kala’s Hands’ for Books or Books. The plan is to display my novel on a daily basis.

Next month I’m lucky enough to secure a booth at the Clark County Spring Fling Book Fair, on March 14th, from 12:30-2:30.
Stop by and say hello 🙂

As always, thank you for reading my blog.

I’m looking forward to another great experience on Saturday, February 7th. Meeting new people and sharing my novel, In Kala’s Hands: A Lakota Sioux Proclamation provides an amazing way to spend a couple of hours at the extraordinary Books or Books bookstore in Henderson, NV.

Kim Henry displayed my book’s poster in her storefront window for weeks in anticipation of my event. I appreciate her supporting me as a new author.

If you couldn’t make my previous event, please stop by this coming Saturday. I’d love to meet readers in such an ideal setting as Books or Books.

The event is from 12:00-2:00 pm

Incredible Event!

IMG_1549

Dragon Castle Books hosted my first book signing on Saturday, and Carla Spillman and Danny Brown couldn’t have been nicer. Thank you so much for making this event an amazing experience.

My family from Sparks shared my special day, my son, Rich, his wife, Cherie, and my grandson, Alex. My son, Bobby Meader lives here in Vegas. Many friends from Las Vegas and Henderson took time from their busy schedules to stop by and support me as a new author. Thrilled a former student took home a signed copy made my day. I’m looking forward to feedback from all my readers.

I met new people who visited the book store and stopped to talk with me, leaving with a signed copy of In Kala’s Hands.

Thank you everyone for your support!

My second signing is February 7, 2015 at Books Or Books from 12:00-2:00

Surprise!

Not only is my son, Bobby Meader, (http://bobbymeadermusic.com/) home from his tour, and able to attend my book signing, but my son Rich, his wife, and my grandson will fly in from Reno to share my special event. What a surprise!

I want to share my conversation with an employee at Office Depot:

Guy: “Can I help you find what you need?”
Me: “Yes, thank you. I’m looking for a document and single book holder.”
Guy: “Follow me; we have a few to choose from.” He picks up a product, and I tell him it’s not what I’m looking for. “Can you tell me what you will use it for so I can better help you?”
Me: “I just need something to display a book.”
Guy: “Are you an author?”
Me: Hesitating, for some reason I had to think about that question. “Yes, I am.”
Guy: “What’s your name? What do you write?”
Me: “Oh, no, no,” I said, shaking my head, “you won’t know me. I’m an Indie author, just published my first book.”
Guy: “What do you write?”
Me: “Fiction.” I hesitate again. “Would you like my card? It has my name and my book’s information.”
Guy: “Yes, I would.” He takes my card and glances over it.
Me: “I’m having my first book signing on January 24th; maybe you’d like to come. It’s the reason for the book holder.”
Guy: “Where is it?”
Me: “Dragon Castle Bookstore, on Cheyenne and Rainbow.” I point out my blog address on the card and show him the title of my book.
Guy: “Thanks, now let’s get you what you need. Follow me again; I think this will work.”

I did leave the store with a book and document holder. It was a good feeling to acknowledge being an author. A damn good feeling!

Thank you to all who responded to my book signing event on Facebook. I’m looking forward to seeing friends and meeting new people. 🙂

Preparing for my first book signing event, while confirming a second!

IMG_1469

January 24th will be my first book signing. I’m preparing for the event and looking forward to sharing, In Kala’s Hands, with readers. Whether one or more people attend, it will be a learning experience.

I’ve booked a second event at Books Or Books on February 7th. Information for both signings follows this post.

Currently, I’ve been catching up on reading and reviewing books from requested authors. So many great stories by Indie authors, and I discover and learn something new from each one.

Writing book reviews for six years before becoming an author, it’s daunting to be on the receiving end of reviews. Welcoming six critiques to date has been rewarding so far. Recognizing readers who enjoyed my story is indescribable.

My favorite part about writing In Kala’s Hands was the research. This week I started research for my second novel, studying facts to create a credible and entertaining story. The idea popped into my head months ago, and I’ve been adding to the plot daily. I’m eager to see how the outline takes shape while I work on the storyline.

Thank you to all who keep up with my blog. Hoping to see you at one of my book signing events:

I’m busy calling and visiting local bookstores in Las Vegas. Receiving positive welcomes and helpful advice from each business keeps my spirits high. Here are the results of this week’s effort:

Books Or Books bookstore graciously printed my book cover where the display is adorning the storefront window.

Kim Henry has been lovely and more than generous offering to sell my novel in her bookstore. We haven’t even met in person yet. I’m looking forward to meeting Kim and visiting her bookstore soon.

Dragon Castle Books bookstore agreed to host my first book signing! Carla Spillman took time from her busy schedule and crowded store full of customers to confirm a date and time for next month: January 24, 2015 from 12:00 – 2:00.

I will be set up in her store to sell and sign copies of my first book, In Kala’s Hands: A Lakota Sioux Proclamation. What a way to start the New Year!

Carla accepted the poster of my book cover and arranged the perfect spot to display weeks before my signing. She also asked for my bio and book summary for her customers to get to know me.

My first review!

lady-on-computer-cartoon

December 5, 2014

Aware I will undoubtedly receive less than favorable reviews from readers at some point, does not diminish my current state of bliss over my very first review, written by Mary Keith:

“This is the delightful and heartwarming story of a young lady pursuing her destiny in life. It has mystery, suspense, romance and intrigue. It is filled with the rich and fascinating history of the Lakota Sioux Nation of South Dakota. There’s something in this book for everybody–there’s even a kidnapping episode!

This book made me realize that if more people would follow Kala’s example and do some soul-searching to determine his or her true purpose in life, the world would be a much better and happier place. Another thing that impressed me is the way the characters were introduced–gradually, instead of having them all thrown at you at once! It was hair-raising from the very first page and never lagged till the end. It’s deep and lighthearted all at the same time, and there are many lessons to be learned from it. Needless to say, I was quite taken with this book, and highly recommend it. I’m honored to be the first reviewer!”

WOW! The reviewer captured me – my style of writing, perfectly. I want to copy and laminate it as a business does when earning its first dollar. This makes the years of work worthwhile knowing someone enjoyed my story.

I could go on and on describing how overwhelmed I feel, but I think you get it. 🙂

Until my second review . . . I’m going to cherish this one . . . forever.
